Read on to learn how to grow strawberries. Prepare the soil for strawberries. Soil may become dry or compacted due to the cultivation of spring and summer vegetables. Therefore, will water the soil to an appropriate level and work it. (Remove roots and stones.)
Strawberries can fit within small space. Strawberry bed size is about 70cm×40cm (about 28 in. × 16 in.). The fertilizers used for growing strawberries are fully ripened cattle manure and fully matured chicken manure. As grow strawberries organically without pesticides, also use organic fertilizers.
The amount of fertilizer is 1 liter (about 1 qt) for cattle manure and 100cc (about 3.5 oz) for chicken manure. Add fertilizer to the soil and work it. (Mix fertilizers in the soil.)
How to make a strawberry bed (Growing strawberries in ground)
After fertilizing the strawberries, the next step is to create the strawberry bed. Shape the strawberry bed with a trowel and wooden boards. Strawberries like well-drained soil, so it’s good to have a bed height of about 10cm (about 4 in.). If the soil has poor drainage, it is better to have a bed height of about 15cm (about 6 in.).
As a tip for making a strawberry bed, use a trowel to press the edges of the bed and make it slightly compacted. If you press the edges of the strawberry bed, you can maintain the shape of the strawberry bed. When overwintering strawberries, the mulch is removed. So the strawberry bed is finished a little firmly to withstand wind and rain.
Afterward, cover the strawberry bed with black polythene mulch, and secure the mulch with mulch pins. Mulching is a traditional method for making the growing strawberries healthy. Mulch will keep the soil moist and the strawberry plants clean. Your strawberry bed is complete.
