Harvest cylindrical shape daikon radish (Daikon radish plant harvest time) – Growing daikon radish
How to grow cylindrical shape daikon radish in the ground cultivation. The cylindrical shape daikon radish growing from seed is ready to harvest. (Daikon radish maturity time.)

The cylindrical shape daikon radish was sown in mid-September, and the cotyledons appeared about a week later.

Covered daikon radish seeds with non-woven fabric after planting.
After daikon radish germination, thinning is done three times at intervals of about 1 week to 10 days to leave one plant per spot.
The first thinning of daikon radishes is done when the cotyledons are fully developed. Thinning involves removing shoots so that only three remain from the four that initially sprouted.
The second thinning of daikon radishes is done when they have 3-4 true leaves, reducing three plants to two. Finally, the third thinning is done when they have 5-6 true leaves, reducing two plants to one.

Here is the article summarizing the thinning of daikon radishes.
We applied additional fertilizer to the daikon in late October. Applied 20g (0.7 oz) of chicken manure to two spots.

When the daikon becomes somewhat thicker, we apply more fertilizer to help it grow further.
Taking care of daikon radish is easy. Remove the dead leaves and hill soil around the shoulders to help them grow big. We used an insect netting since planting the daikon radish seeds, so there was no serious insect damage. (There were some aphids on the leaves, though.)

The harvested daikon radish was about 8cm (3.1 in) in diameter and about 18cm (7.1 in) long.

Daikon radish can be used in many dishes like salads and stews, so I’m looking forward to eating it. You can eat daikon radish leaves too.

I plan to harvest the remaining three daikon radish at a later time.
