Grow eggplant and bell pepper in the ground cultivation. Last time, I planted eggplant and bell pepper seedlings and put up temporary stakes. About a month has passed since then. This time, I will add more fertilizer to the eggplants and bell peppers. (Eggplant and bell pepper plant care.)

When to fertilizing eggplant and bell pepper plants? (When to Side dressing?) The first time to add extra fertilizer to eggplants and bell peppers is usually about one month after planting. This timing is the same for both eggplants and peppers, so you can use it when growing white eggplants or chili peppers too.

Eggplants and peppers are common summer vegetables to grow in home gardens, so it’s a good idea to remember this timing for adding more fertilizer.

I planted the eggplants and bell peppers in late April. (Planted japanese eggplant and bell pepper in the ground.)

Why do we add fertilizer 20cm (8 inches) away from the base of the eggplants and peppers? It’s because the roots of the eggplants and peppers reach about 20cm (8 inches) from the base one month after planting. (Within a radius of about 20cm from the base.)

Fertilizer works best when it is added a little ahead of the root tips. This distance is about 20cm (8 inches) away from the base of the plant. It’s not good to put fertilizer too close to the base because it can damage the roots if the fertilizer touches them directly.

For fertilizing eggplant and bell pepper, use 20g (0.7 oz) of chicken manure per spot. Lift the mulch on the bed, dig a hole about 10cm (4 inches) deep, and add the fertilizer there.

Chicken manure is a recommended fertilizer for eggplant and bell pepper additional fertilizing because it contains a balanced amount of nutrients necessary for eggplant and bell pepper cultivation. (Best fertilizers for eggplant and bell pepper.)

After adding the fertilizer, water it, cover it with soil, and put the mulch back. This completes the fertilizing work for the eggplants and bell peppers. (Side dressing for eggplant and bell pepper is complete.)

We water the fertilizer, chicken manure, to help the soil microorganisms. (For microorganisms, moist fertilizer is easier to decompose.)

Don’t forget to cover the fertilizer with soil. If chicken manure is exposed on the soil, it can attract pests due to the smell. If you add fertilizer to the eggplant and bell pepper but pests still come, it won’t help. After fertilizing, always cover the soil.
