Best fertilizer for cabbage, chinese cabbage, and broccolini (Grow winter cabbage plant, and etc…)
Grow winter cabbage plant, napa cabbage, and broccolini in grow tunnel. Last time, it was the planting time for cabbage, chinese cabbage, and broccolini seedlings. About 3 weeks have passed since then. After about 3 weeks from planting, the nutrients from the initial fertilizer begin to deplete. So, it’s time to apply add-fertilizing and replenish the fertilizer for cabbage, napa cabbage, and broccolini.
The total number of planted seedlings for winter cabbage, chinese cabbage, and broccolini is 5. Since winter cabbage plant and napa cabbage have quite spreading leaves, the plot of about 60×120cm (2 x 4 feet) seems a bit cramped, but they are growing well.
I planted winter cabbage, chinese cabbage, and broccolini seedlings in early September.
How to apply fertilizing for cabbage, napa cabbage, and broccolini (Best way to grow cabbage and broccolini)
Vegetables like cabbage, chinese cabbage, and broccolini, grown from seedlings, require add-fertilizing around 3 to 4 weeks after planting. The add-fertilizing positions for broccolini are 2 spots, just below the bed. To prevent uneven distribution of fertilizer, we space the 2 spots slightly apart.
The fertilizing spot for cabbage and napa cabbage is also done beneath the bed. The fertilizing for cabbage and chinese cabbage is done at 1 spot per plant. Since there are 2 cabbage plants and 2 napa cabbage plants, there are a total of 4 fertilizing spots.
We use organic chicken manure for fertilizing. (fully matured fermentation) The amount of add-fertilizing is 20cc (3/4oz) of chicken manure per spot. The quantity of chicken manure is measured using a measuring cup or similar tool.
The method for add-fertilizing involves lifting the mulch, digging a hole of about 10cm (4 inches) deep, and placing the fertilizer in it.
Fertilize broccolini with chicken manure
Fertilize cabbage and chinese cabbage with chicken manure
After additional-fertilizing, water the chicken manure and cover it with soil. Watering the chicken manure is because it makes it easier for microorganisms to decompose.
Don’t forget to cover the fertilizer with soil. If chicken manure is exposed on the soil, it can attract pests due to the smell.
Finally, put back the black polythene mulch and the insect netting for grow tunnel. If you cover the bottom part of the insect netting with soil, it becomes less accessible for insects.
With this, the additional fertilizing for the cabbage, napa cabbage, and broccolini is complete.
