Additional fertilizer for cabbage (2nd fertilizer) and stem broccoli (3rd fertilizer)

How to grow cabbage and stem broccoli in open-field cultivation. Let’s handle the care and maintenance of our cabbage plant and stem broccoli this time. More than 3 weeks have passed since the last fertilizing for both cabbage and stem broccoli. It’s time to add more fertilizer again, so I will fertilize them. (Best way to grow cabbage and stem broccoli.)

Fertilizing cabbage and stem broccoli

About 3 weeks have passed since the last fertilizing for the stem broccoli. This is the third fertilizing. About 40 days have passed since the last fertilizing for the cabbage. This is the second fertilizing.

Second fertilizing for cabbage, third for stem broccoli

Stem broccoli how long to grow? Stem broccoli is grown over winter and has a long growing period, so it needs fertilizing about once a month.

Fertilizing cabbage depends on the growth conditions and soil of that year. Usually, it needs fertilizing once, or at most, twice. (Too much fertilizer can cause pests and poor growth, so the right amount and frequency are important.)

Fertilizing was last done for stem broccoli when the main bud was pinched off (late October), and for cabbage since early October.

We fertilize cabbage and stem broccoli by placing fertilizer in two spots near the base of the bed, close to the pathways. To ensure that the fertilizer for add-fertilizing is evenly distributed, we will separate the application points at two locations. (I will explain how to add-fertilize using stem broccoli as an example, but the method is the same for cabbage add-fertilizing as well.)

We use organic chicken manure for fertilizing. (Fully matured fermentation.) Chicken manure is an organic fertilizer that helps the growth of cabbage and stem broccoli. The amount of add-fertilizing is 20g (3/4oz) of chicken manure per spot. The quantity of chicken manure is measured using a measuring cup or similar tool.

Use 20g (3/4oz) of chicken manure for add-fertilizing cabbage and stem broccoli

For additional fertilizing, dig two spots under the bed with a trowel and put the chicken manure there. A depth of 10cm (4 inches) is enough for the holes.

Put chicken manure into the hole

After putting chicken manure in the stem broccoli, also do the additional fertilizing for the cabbage.

Add 20g (0.7 oz) of chicken manure to each spot for additional fertilizing

After additional fertilizing, water the chicken manure and cover it with soil. We water the fertilizer, chicken manure, to help the soil microorganisms. (For microorganisms, moist fertilizer is easier to decompose.)

Water the chicken manure

Don’t forget to cover the fertilizer with soil. If chicken manure is exposed on the soil, it can attract pests due to the smell.

Finally, put back the black polythene mulch and the insect netting for grow tunnel. Cabbage and stem broccoli add-fertilizing completed. (Management of cabbage and stem broccoli cultivation is now done.)
