Pinching broccolini (Growing broccolini plant)
How to grow broccolini in field farming. This time, I will manage the broccolini for harvest and pinch the top. Pinching makes more side shoots grow, and the plant needs nutrients. So, I will also add fertilizer (second time).
Broccolini care:Pinching
Broccolini has a main bud at the tip of the main stem.
The main bud is about 3–4cm (1.2-1.6 inches) wide. If broccolini blooms without pinching, the stems become hard and more bitter. The taste decreases, so I try to pinch and harvest early.
Broccolini stems are cut at an angle. The reason for cutting at an angle is to keep rainwater from staying on the cut surface. (If water collects on the cut, it stays wet and can cause disease.)
Broccolini care:second fertilizing
Pinching makes broccolini grow side shoots, and they need nutrients. So, I do side dressing to give more nutrients.
The amount of fertilizer is 20g (0.7 oz) of chicken manure per spot. Turn over the mulch, dig a hole about 10cm (4 inches) deep, and apply fertilizing.
After adding the fertilizer, water it, cover it with soil, and place the insect netting back. Now, the pinching and side dressing for the broccolini are complete.
Following is the video for how-to. English subtitles are available.
