Sowing Korean green leaf lettuce seeds (Growing Korean green leaf lettuce from seed)
Grow Korean green leaf lettuce in rental patch. It’s been about 3 weeks since preparing the soil for green leaf lettuce.
This time, I will sow Korean green leaf lettuce seeds. (Growing green leaf lettuce from seed.) When growing Korean green leaf lettuce in spring, mid-April is a good time for sowing seeds. (Best time to plant green leaf lettuce is mid-April.)
You can grow Korean green leaf lettuce almost all year except in winter, but the best time is in spring, and it’s good to harvest around summer. (Korean green leaf lettuce maturity time is about June.)
I prepared to grow Korean green leaf lettuce in mid-March. I added fertilizer to the soil and made the bed.
First, how to plant the green leaf lettuce seeds. Korean green leaf lettuce is grown near the center of the bed, so make three holes in the bed. (We use a mulch cutter to make holes.)
Sow 4 leaf lettuce seeds per hole in the mulch. The depth should be about 5mm (0.2 inches). Since Korean leaf lettuce seeds are small, use a toothpick or similar tool to push them to a depth of 5mm (0.2 inches).
After sowing the Korean leaf lettuce seeds, cover them lightly with soil and press down with your hand. Covering with soil and pressing down is called firming, and it’s an important step in planting leaf lettuce seeds.
Pressing down the soil helps the seeds and soil stick together. This allows moisture in the soil to reach the seeds better, making it easier for them to sprout. Firming the soil also reduces moisture evaporation, preventing the seeds from drying out.
As for the amount of soil to cover the seeds, Korean green leaf lettuce is a light-favoured seed (photoblastic seed), so cover it lightly with soil. Since the planting depth is about 5 mm, sunlight should reach the seeds easily.
After sowing the seeds, we cover the Korean leaf lettuce plot with non-woven fabric. (The placed non-woven fabric is secured by U-shaped garden pin.)
By placing a non-woven fabric, you can prevent the seeds from drying out, and it also shields them from direct contact with watering or rainwater, protecting the seeds.
After covering with non-woven fabric, water the soil to the point of moisture. (Be careful not to overwater, as it can cause the seeds to rot.) With this, the Korean green leaf lettuce seeding is complete.
